Back hey I just asked this type of question over at Renderosity, but mine was about edge2path.tsx, and the weird sweeps, but found out that if I click the 'bend' button on the tsx properties then it will follow the spline and curve as it goes along, not keeping the same plane as the extruded face.
This may be what you are wanting to do.
edge2path.tsx is a free plug-in and is available @ primitive itch.
I don't want to use macrosweep because I need to get "smooth" spiral sitches, and I know macrosweep could possibly have a problem with the "curves"
