Hi David,

Yes, I believe that it can.  But I also believe that it's fairly limited in
what you
can do from within trueSpace (keep in mind that I'm using version 5.1 SP2.)
It looks like my options are Material Rectangle, Shrink Wrap, Spherical,
Cylindrical, Cubic and Planar.  Additionally, I don't think I have the ability
to
alter the UV coordinates once trueSpace has applied them.  This can be a
disadvantage, for instance, if I don't want all sides of my cube sharing the
same UV space after applying the Cubic projection.

A program like UVMapper allows the user quite a bit more input into the
texture mapping process.  You can select and project portions of the model
using different methods - e.g. cylindrical for the arms and legs, and spherical
for the head of your model.  You can change the rotation of the model in 3-
space to get a better projection - many times the legs/arms aren't perfectly
aligned with the vertical axis.  You can also select where in the UV space
you'd like each portion of your model mapped.  UVMapper Pro has additional
features like Relax UVs that can be really useful for eliminating distortion in
models that have overlapping UVs when mapped using traditional projections.

I believe that Caligari has made some improvements in the UV editing in
newer versions of trueSpace.  Can someone who is familiar with the updated
UV editor give us a little more detail about the improved features?

HTH,
Steve
