Hi Richard,

If you are running Windows ME it should be fine. Keep in mind though that leap
in tech
you mentioned.

XP is for the most part .Net based  with compatability considerations for other
types of application software such as Java. Java though requires its own
runtime environment which
is lodged in on the xp system. True too for the ME windows O.S. for that matter
. What does this mean?

I would think about determining whether the .Net runtime should be installed on
your ME
system. It is free from Microsoft. Given only that the TS7 is fully .Net based.

.Net based means that the software will seek .Net code to carry out the
instructions of the softwares functionality. If it dosn't find it a .Net
runtime environment will need to be added.
Not such a difficult task.

I'm a bit in the dark here but it may well be that TS7 will install this anyway
if it is dependent upon .Net only.   Remember though this is not an unusual
process for software. Programs written in other languages install a runtime if
needed. This is as similar a fashion as Java installs the Java virtual machine
etc.  So, I speak of this in terms of establishing  compatibility on your
system.

I am sure that the Caligari people know this and will provide for TS7 use on
all types of O.S. software  Win95 is 32 bit but allows 16 bit as does XP. I can
run 16 bit software on XP. So,
it is not an unusual consideration.

Well it is a new world out there and it is good to have the TrueSpace tool to
make things that much better. The proteam has many benifets with which to focus
and develop skill and the world is waiting good designs to use.

Best of regards fellow TrueSpacer

David

I think your machine will probably be fine given your video card. Improve DDR
ram first to see if there is a significant difference.  Your shop should allow
you to test this without charge. Take it in run TS with a high load project or
what project demands that signify your aspirations.

Tweaks to XP or other OS may balance out system as well but just what
tweaks could be utilized on your machine I am not sure.

Make sense ? Good luck with your decision -

David

The dreaded jump to XP would be required for me to use any more "RAM" (I'm top
-ended as far as my MAXimum RAM goes for Windows Me)
The thing is if (when is more likely) my comp crashes I can recover it through
DOS (or at least recover my info)  But yes, if I move to XP I would have to see
if there is a way to backup/recover fully from a total failure.
Considering my first comp was a Tandy TX1000 with 64 Kb and a Floppy as my Disk
(1986) we forget how fast our computers really are nowadays.

As long as TS7 runs fine with my current Comp, I'll consider it... I might gust
buy another computer (XP and all) for my 3D stuff... a dual processor would be
cool. Hmm...
