   LINUS : NO sorry I have seen a few tutorials from that moon site( really
sorry I cannot remember it but it is a site with a list of tutorials) and
various 3dsMax, but I am just doing this from my head. I have read so many
tutorials that there is no 'one' that I am working from.

   Yes I always model in subdivision, it is the way I learned with Max.
trueMirror is my mirroring of choice.

   For the eyes I used a sphere to model around. I leave the mouth and nose
open as you can see in the 1st image will later cap them and bevel out a little
lip for the eye as you can sort of see in the 2nd image I posed to the same
thread.  

   Like  Tony said if you will never see it why bother modeling it :)
