Diffuse indoor lighting can be achieved with the IBL light.  Just make it a
faint, secondary light source and use a primary, shadow casting light source
such as an infinite light or an area light.  Use map shadows for the softer
look.  For an even softer look, take the = infinite light, decrease its
intensity by 25% and then copy it 4 times, changing the angle slightly (1
degree or so) for each separate copy.
