Animation/Music Synchronization 2004-12-30 - By Ron Hodges
Back Spencer - if you haven't already done so, check out the ProTeam "Music Machine" course. While the author is actually synchronizing the animation to a string of individual notes, properly placed in the time axis, similar techniques should work for a sound file. The courseware comes with charts showing at what frame numbers the notes are played; you'd probably need to lay that out yourself first.
If you could find your sound clip as a MIDI file, using a MIDI editing program would let you see where the notes or beats occur.
If you want to see an amazing set of music-synced animations, check out http:/ /www.animusic.com
There are short clips from several of their works and they sell an excellent DVD with full length versions of the songs. It also includes slide-shows showing how they designed and constructed (in 3D software) each of the instruments in the performance space. Highly recommended!!
