No don't cycle if you want it to look good. I did one for a short film,
I made preset flap types and mixed them with hand animated random
movements. There were half flaps full flaps, glide noise closed (wings
closed with ruffling noise for wind turb) and an open version. The
closed glide is good for the temporary dive bomb.

trust me people will be more blown away when the animation isn't too
automated.
