Actually I don't think Caligari is going to stray too far from its past
pricing regime. The move to include the current Lightworks render engine is
simply in line with past releases. The inclusion of the virtual light
renderer was foreshadowed by its creator Stephane Marty some months ago. The
virtual light renderer is already available for free although the plugin to
allow better integration did cost money. Fully integrating the renderer into
Truespace is a good step however and will make it more useful for the
average Truespace user. Seeing that Stephane has already allowed free use of
his renderer there should be little in the way of additional cost added to
Truespace by the integration move.

Any real increase in costs will come from the Vray renderer which is a
commercial product. The base version of this costs around $299- I believe.
According to Caligari's announcement the Vray renderer will be an optional
extra and that is where the increased cost will show up. For those that wish
to spend the extra money they will have a leading edge renderer at their
disposal coupled with the ease of use already provided by the Truespace
product. Seems like a good move.

For those that don't need or want the extra expense of the Vray renderer the
base Truespace product will be available. I think this is probably a very
good move by Caligari as they retain their hobbiest user base but have
potential to attract those who want more but have previously overlooked the
Truespace product due to perceived lack of leading edge progress. Time will
tell I guess.
