"It would be like leaving the town you grew up in and moving to the big
city."

It depends on what you want.  If you really do need what XSI can give
you, moving on to that city is a wise move.  But, if you don't, there's
no need to buy a different program, if you're not going to gain the same
amount of enjoyment from it (community related or not).

Most of the XSI guys I've met have been quite helpful, but there is a
bit of that attitude floating around, sure.  It really does depend on
where you ask.  It's not like newbies don't get help for XSI... the
Cgtalk forums are a great place, as is the XSIbase.com forum, but you
really would loose the kind of community TS has, I feel.  There are a
lot of people in the TS community who are on the same level.

I should also mention that XSI also has a very steep learning curve.  In
fact, it makes Truespace seem like a cakewalk.  So, if you find yourself
asking questions about TS right now, you'll be asking thousands more if
you go with XSI.  Anyway, I personally would recommend checking out the
XSI demo, and hanging around on in the community for those 30 days.  I
found it okay, and now enjoy both XSI and TS.  But, I could imagine that
a lot of people wouldn't.
