Stories from the New York Bus 2005-07-05 - By T.Hopkins7@(protected)
Back I have some stories from my NY bus rides. One night I got on the 9:25 bus and I had a seat all to myself. We went to Newark Airport to pick up people from Terminal 1, 2, and 3. Anyway I kinda wanted to try to keep my seat to myself, but I saw an elderly man who looked like a nice person so I thought about moving over. When I saw all the rough looking blacks and puerto ricans behind him I immediately asked him if he wanted a seat, because I knew if he didn't take it then one of them would. He, he.
Anyway we started talking and he told me about his kids, what they majored in, how they didn't go far from home, even though he tried to talk one of them into going to school in Idaho. He had just gotten back from Phoenix and lived in Phillipsburg with his lifelong wife. Then he asked if I were married and I said I had never been married. He said that I was pretty and couldn't understand why not. I told him I hadn't even dated in 7 years. I told him I found that men didn't like intelligent women, only ones who were flirtatious and didn't read books and the funny thing was he said to me, "You're right" (not meaning he agreed with it, but knowing men also).
One night I sat by a drunk who was a well to do lady and there was a young black women right behind us on her cell phone. She told her since she was talking on her cell phone loud, that she could read her book aloud and preceded to do so. I thought they were going to get in a physical fight. I pretended to sleep.
