I think that only a quicktime output (for Carrara) supports audio.
Best to use another program for video editing, though. Carrara's sound track is best used for synchronizing action (be sure to add a recognizable starting point). However, you'll get better control over the audio in a video editing program. This will also allow you to produce animation in 5 to 30 (or a bit more) second shots, and then edit them together in a video editing program. Much easier on the nerves.
