Hi Ashley,

First, have you made sure that your rotation axis (hot point) is at
the *center* of each vertex object?  If not, then that would make
rotating your objects much more challenging.  To center your rotation
axis/hot point, highlight your object and:

Go to Properties Tray > Motion > Transform, and make sure that "Lock
Hot Point" is selected.  Then hit the "HP->Obj" button".  That will
make sure that the hotpoint is in the center of your object.

Then, the next thing that you can use is the "Use Collision Detection"
icon at the bottom right-hand side of the 3DView window (white icon
with three dots, just under the "textured" sphere icon).  What that
does is that it helps you detect where another object is when lining
things up.  So if you rotate your object and move it done to the
plane, you will know when you have reached it because it will give
your move cursor some resistance as you try to drag it further down.
At that point you can rotate the object again and keep moving it down
until it lines up with the plane object at the rotation you desire.

Well, hope that helps a little bit.

Cheers.

Claudia
