Thanks for the information.  I need to buy the laptop first.  He, he.  Tina

If you have Comcast Cable at home like me then all you need to run a
wireless network is a wireless router (50-120 bucks), which you connect
to the Comcast Modem and your main computer and then a wireless card
(60-90) for each remote machine in the house.
You do not need another internet connection. One word fwiw, D-Link
wireless routers and Comcast Modems are not "supported" and each of
their tech support centers will point you toward the other company when
your wireless network fails. I got a Lynksis router and have no more
issues with Comcast. Comcast doesn't "support" any one router and won't
take any action to help you if you  The D-Link was a miserable
experience.

Yeah, I don't know exactly what he was talking about.  Centrino
technology does allow for wireless internet access though doesn't it?  I
have comcast cable at home.  Would I need another ISP for wireless
internet?  I am a bit confused how wireless works and it's transmission
rates.  It probably would not be as high a transmission as my cable.
Thanks for help.  Tina

Tina,

You might be confusing a WiFi card with a cellular or WiFi access
plan.  The card enables a laptop that is not equipped with WiFi to
connect via WiFi, but you still need something to connect to.  A WiFi
access plan is through someone like Cingular, Verizon, TMobile, etc,
and provides you with locations you can connect to in airports,
hotels, etc when you're away from home.
