In the vertex modeling room this can be done, not in the assembly room by
intention as far as I know.
I have an old PDF. you can read on how to display an image in the vertex
modeling room in Carrara 3. Granted It's simple, but it works and gives you
a general idea.
There's a better one in an old 3dextract with a fish, I forget offhand who
did it but it was cool.

Hello,
I'm new with using Carrara Studio 3. I'm on Chapter 9 in the Mike De La
Flor book. The book is really helping me with learning Carrara Studio but
I'm having a little trouble. For me to create a model of an airplane, I
need to make sure that I'm creating the model in proportion. I was
wondering if someone can tell me how to apply reference images to the planes
in both the Assembly and Modeling Rooms. The picture on page 96 in figure
9.4 shows reference images on the planes but I can't figure out how to apply
these images to the planes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank
you.
