I 've got a 50.00 Caligari coupon expiring in Dec 2004 - what 2004-11-23 - By Dave Angelini
Back Well, for character animation there is nothing better than MotionStudio from Primitive Itch. The downside is that MotionStudio is not part of any deal that I know of with Caligari such that your $50 coupon would work on. So you may be stuck paying the full price...which is not much for such a powerful plugin ($119 I think). But as far as character animation goes, it is definitely in the "Must Have" category. There is a Caligari course on how to use Motion Studio so you could use your $50 on that. The course is by Oliver Rohe and can be found at
http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts5/Courses/characteranimation.asp ?Cate=Courses
As far as "greenscreening" the characters into your backyard, well you don't need Pinnacle Studio to do that as a shadow catcher global shader in tS would also accomplish the trick. Basically, you import the backyard film into the tS background, set up a ground plane to match the background plate, and use shadow catcher to only capture the character and its shadow as it is rendered with the background image. Trust me, this is easier than it sounds....but it can be done. Shadow Catcher is free via the FreeCP web-site (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=79113). There are also other version of this shader and it is even built into tS6.
I hope this helps.
Thanks, Dave Angelini
