any expressions users? 2005-06-16 - By Andrew Turner
Back Hi Doug - thanks for the info. Upon reading:
"Although a Macintosh version of Expression was available before the Microsoft purchase, the software giant said the test version of Acryclic cannot be used with the Apple Computer platform."
Well, there you go, then. I downloaded it and have the Mac version, but will most likely stick with Illustrator anyway.

I haven't used Illustrator's brush feature, but in Expression, you can build a complex image in vector paths AND pixel based images and then create a brush stroke with it. That brush stroke can then be manipulated in a number of ways including width (including varying the width along its stroke), skew and whether the stroke acts like a ribbon or is perpendicular to the stroke's path (a fully editable vector path).
I've used Expression for a number of client projects. The most successful ones have been where the client wanted an illustration to look like a metal engraving. It was easy to create a series of brush strokes to mimic the look of engraved lines in a metal plate and then, when the image was finished, if the client wants a few of the lines placed differently, you just pick the strokes up and move them individually since they are fully editable.
I don't miss polishing down an engraved metal plate nor do I miss the incessant cleaning of Rapidograph pens at all. :-)
