Howdy, :)

There are actually a couple of packages I could recommend for young
beginners:

1) DOGA-L System - This 3D animation package is designed to take the
animator through three stages of development, the last being the most
advanced. DOGA-L2 is modestly priced at $30.00 for the software only,
where the DOGA-L! beginning software is still freeware
<http://www.doga.us/downloads.htm>

Here is the main page link - <http://www.doga.us/>

Checking out their galleries still and movie files (bottom links) will
give you an idea about the software - <http://www.doga.us/gallery.htm>

DOGA-L3 is currently in development and will be released soon, per the
website.

This is a good fast way to get kids interested in the world of 3D. I
have recommended it to one youngster and he enjoys it very much.

I have toyed with DOGA myself as well and can definitely say that
young people should adapt to this program quite well.

2) I have also heard some good things about "Cosmic Blobs" for
beginning animators - <http://www.cosmicblobs.com/>

3) There is, of course, our own Carrara software which is going at an
affordable rate for the older versions:

a) Carrara Studio 3 / $82.50 - <http://store.purplus.net/carrara3.html>

b) Carrara Basics / $28.95 - <http://store.purplus.net/ca3dbawinmac.html>

4) Also, Dogwaffle PD Pro Digital Painter 3.1 is going for $87.00 -
<http://store.purplus.net/dppro31.html>

5) Last but not least, there is always Flash. The MX 2004 academic
version can be scooped up at $128.95. This is definitely vector-based
and would give her a good step towards using this package in the future.

Well, hope this helped. :)

Cheers.
