David,

I've wondered the same thing about exporting animations from Carrara
using a format that supports animation, such as 3DS, and come up with
the same answer: it can't be done. My own reason is to utilize Deep
Exploration for conversion of an animated model to U3D format for
inclusion in a PDF file. The old Deep Exploration supported animated
Viewpoint, which Carrara can export, but the U3D-capable version 3.5
no longer handles Viewpoint, so there is no crossover path there.
Viewpoint at least could have served as an intermediary animated
format, but has vanished from the planet for now.
