Back It's called anime, manga is Japanese for comic or comic book... Cartoons are animes, simply the Japanese expression for animated films... It's always been called that, just not in the western part of the world... Astro Boy or whatever it's called, is usually considered the first anime cartoon, but it's nowhere near the first manga...
