Wintel is now Mintel? (off-topic) 2005-06-08 - By Vince Marco
Back I think they've demonstrated the ability to use AMD if needed or advantageous down the road. But both AMD and PowerPC have power/heat issues on the laptops, which Intell has the resources to resolve. Besides, they get a marketing boost in the nontech consumer marketplace which believes that Intell-inside means something.
My point with Xbox is that with other consumers for PowerPC chips which can be a higher volume market, Apple would tend to get squeezed out for what it needs. And don't think that IBM hasn't been intentionally slowing down the advancement of the XServe, which competes directly with their AIX servers. I know from personal experience how good technology can fall victim to IBM's internal politics.
This move will benefit both Apple and consumers. I just don't know what M$ will throw into the way to stop it. Won't be good for them in the long run.
Ok, now I'm done with this off-topic topic. I'll be good now. :-)
