Even if that doesn't quite work which, I'm not really sure about. It is a
very workaround idea.

Does it work in C4? Well now. I Just tried it and it does indeed. I see no
reason why it couldn't be applied to a glass shader or something with light
through transparency unless this option is not in the basics render
settings.

Erm. Not installed anymore.Ok, well there's only so far that I'll go, basics
is retired in the hall of scratchy disks.

(A shoe box) :-)

Good advice too for keeping it simple.

Steve

I don't know the limitations of 3D Basics since I use
the full program, but I think you could place a light
inside a cone primitive and it would at least give
you the outward appearance of the light cone.

Make sure you turn on "light through transparency"
in the Render Room and then start with a natural
texture in the transparency channel of the cone's
shader.

You'll have to do a lot of fiddling, but it might work.

First off, relax and play. 3D Basics comes with a bunch
of pre-made models on the CD, doesn't it? Open them
up and see how they are constructed. I'm not sure
if 3D Basics comes with the scene wizard that Carrara's
regular program has, but if it does, use some of those
scenes to get a feel for the way lights and backgrounds
are used.

Once you have a general feel for the way the program
works, find simple objects you have around you and
model them -- things like a goblet, jar, clay pot, simple
table and lamp.

And be patient with yourself. There are many concepts
involved in 3D that newbies have to learn. It takes some
time; don't expect to figure it all out in a week.

Post your questions to this list and we will gladly get
you up and running.

Good luck,

Doug
