Hi Steve,
No, I haven't yet because I have been quite happy with the smoothing that I have been getting in Hexagon. But as I mentioned in my previous message, I would probably consider this if I needed to keep certain edges creased and others smoothed. But I can just imagine that importing a low-poly into Carrrara should work just fine with smoothing in the VM....
[...a few mintues later...]
[ADDENDUM]...Okay, this was too tempting... :) So I just did a quick extrusion object in Hexagon and exported it as an OBJ file into CS4 Pro for smoothing. The smoothing is okay, but I feel that the results I got from the poly object I modeled in the VM handled smoothing much better. But the smoothed and creased areas stayed "relatively" safe from one another.
However, when I imported it as a CAR file, I noticed that when I went to smooth the same area, the smoothing was indeed better, like that of a native VM object, BUT, the VM smoothed the *entire* object. This is sort of what Hexagon does already.
So in a nutshell, if I had to deal with smoothed and creased areas in a Hexagon model, it seems that the OBJ export is capable of handling this over the CAR export. I need to try the other formats to see if there are any other differences, etc.
Cheers.
