I think she is able to grasp the VM because she is looking at how to
model things differently.  In Amapi you have NURBS and a great number
of ways to do things.  In Hexagon, it is more limited (there still are
a number of ways, but not as many as in Amapi).  

The different approaches to modelling like as in "box-modelling"
techniques work well within the VM but is a bit slower due to the lack
of specialized tools in a better modeler like Hex.

Furthermore, I remember Charles mention during a just prior to the
Hexagon chat that development of Carrara's VM will still continue
regardless of the Hexagon development.  After all, with a few tools
like beveling and better selection abilities, the VM can be rather
capable modeling tool.
