Re: Virtual Package review in CS4 2005-05-25 - By John Richardson
Back Hello,
Also, didn't Adobe stop development on Atmosphere, which would have allowed web designers to place VET content into web pages.
I was also under the impression that Macromedia had scaled back Shockwave 3D development. Is this correct? Shockwave 3D is probably a plug-in from the Macromedia web site. They probably have a tutorial on viewing it. There are textbooks on the subject at your local computer book store. Actuall, now that Adobe owns Macromedia, I suppose that shockwave 3D would be the preferred export function other than VRML / X3D. So, the real question is when will Eovia export VRML animations, VRML H-Anim (characters) and GeoVRML (terrain)?
MACINTOSH VRML VIEWER (Standalone Cocoa application) [ Panther and Jaguar ] (in Panther you can also talk to the viewer - for details, RTFM) http://sourceforge.net/projects/simvrml The SimVRMLCommunities.sea.bin is an old set of test VRML files created by Amapi / Carrara. It requires Classic. The beta file is the Jaguar file I believe.
I will also entertain feedback on ease of installation of the required rendering libraries and the viewer. I plan on installing the test files as a disk image.
Macintosh VRML viewer (OS X) PLUG-IN for NETSCAPE / Possibly Firefox / IE / ... [follow the related links "link" on the Cortona VRML Client page] Cortona VRML plug-in produced by parallel graphics, a russian firm http://www.parallelgraphics.com
There are others: See the VRML/X3D sites http://web3d.org http://macweb3d.org

It may have changed, but aren't there nasty licensing issues with the VET format?

The link you sent takes me to a blank page with a pop-up window. Since I had pop-up blocker on, I just saw the blank page. You may want to add a link.
Unfortunately, the VET plug-in is only available for Windows (any chance of a Mac version soon, Eovia?) I tried exporting to vrml and shockwave 3D but I'm not sure how to view those files once they're created.
