Back Hi,
What you need to do is apply whatever objects that will have the shadow upon with a *shadow catcher* shader. That way, you can create a separate shadow pass that can be composited later with the text. Page 351 in the PDF manual goes into more detail about this in the chapter entitled "Casting Shadows on Background Objects".
