Introducing carraMeL (2) 2005-05-16 - By Steve
Back An interesting idea, a bit like sending your images to the photo developer hmm? This could be use full for people who dont have a high degree of rendering power behind them or want live support for problems with a file. If you have ever messed around with a sharepoint site for document management (which is really cool btw) if you set the permissions on the website to allow upload of a car. file it will open it up and read it all as text.

Which would lead to the next logical step of a webservice plugin! It could call on an external resource to-do things like Rendering, Effects, Mirroring, backups, conversions, this list goes on - neat idea I think and my company provides software that could be used as this type of framework. http://www.international-presence.com - it is marketed as Business Process Management but could easy provide the webservice and support systems around this kind of setup.

Cool, have you also provided a schema like an XSD file? Not sure why I would want this yet but I have some good XML tools that use xsd that maybe could be used to offer a webservice to do the kind of things you suggest.

Bonjour,
Precision regarding carraMeL : As the "plug-in" was developped as a "proof of concept", I did not ensure a totally valid xml output. Some .car files elements names should not be passed straight into the .xml, because xml tags name must not include things such as ":". A mapping in both way (.car -> .xml and .xml -> .car) should be applied when such .car names are encountered.
The reason I didn't map these invalid characters to valid ones is that there is simply no available list of all .car elements available from Eovia, so I could not have been sure I had mapped all possible existing invalid ones.
It would be nice that Eovia release a full spec of the .car file format.
