mapping a photo into a scene

mapping a photo into a scene

Does anyone know where I can find a tutorial on using a 2D, and or QTVR
image in a scene?

I want to project an existing QTVR image around the scene - which I'm just
experimenting with at the moment, by creating a sphere, and spherically
mapping a flat QTVR panorama to it, then putting the camera in the centre,
looking out...  But I'm just wondering how to catch shadows properly, as the
ground plane won't necessarily match the ground as it appears on the
sphere....

Related to this, I'd like to project a 2D photo of a room, and be able to
add an object that casts shadows etc....

Seems easy in theory, but quite difficult if you have a 2D photo containing
more than 1 plane....

Any clues or tutorials around?

J.
