Re: dollar vs euro whining 2005-05-10 - By Jason Sheldon
Back Hmm... I'd order Hexagon, but I'll be damned if I'm paying 69 GBP + 19.6% tax when $99 equates to 52 ex. VAT (and UK VAT is 17.5%) Especially as the download is more than likely the same file on the Element5 server.....
I fully understand (some) price differences in physical product - as different regions may have local manufacturers pressing and packing the CD's etc, so invariably, production costs will differ..... But an electronic download + serial number? That costs the same to distribute whether you're in New York or Outer Mongolia.
It is also unrealistic to use the 'export restriction' excuse... In fact, it could be argued that the pricing difference is racist: If an American citizen logs on and places the order from France...... Will they be refused the sale because they are physically located in france, or will it just check the 'card holders address', see that the address is US based, and allow the sale at $99, despite the fact the website says (to European residents) that the $99 USD version can't be exported to Europe.
I'd love to see it, and try it, even went to buy it, but no, I won't pay nearly 20 extra just because of my postcode.
J.
