Re: OT-open source 2005-05-05 - By elsiget
Back I like open-source, for many reasons... It generates great communities, where people come together and develop great software... And for those who don't develop software, it's great to be able to get some apps for free...
I like the GIMP a lot, although it takes some getting used to the multiple window interface (as opposed to inner window interfaces), it has just about all the power Photoshop has, it lacks a few filters and such, but no big deal...
I looked at Blender a few years back, and I was impressed at what had been produced with it, and the fact that it was free and open-source... It has loads of features, so if only some good GUI makers could get in there and design a better front end, I guess it could really take off (even more so than it already has, that is)... Never got around to using it though, just installed it and left it there...
Don't know much about Wings3d, I know it's quite popular... Just stopped over the site, and the work done with it looks pretty good... I guess I should download it and give it a try... ;)
