it works.

Just bake your keys in maya and save as a .ma file. AE will read that
fine. I usually strip the scene of everything except cameras and nulls
as AE will have to parse the whole .ma file. If you have locators, AE
will read them only if the name starts with (or maybe contains, I don't
remember) the word "null". Otherwise it will ignore them unless they're
part of a rig animating the camera.

You may have to play with scale of the scene. One method is in AE to
put a null at 0,0,0, and make your maya camera (and nulls if need be) a
child of that null. then scale the null.

AE 6 deals with scale a little differently, and you can map maya units
= pixels if you want.
