Re: New Image Tru 'Nembra 's Pipes 2005-05-03 - By Bob Dawson
Back Hi, Andi.
Assuming high enough resolution, your original image--which was very nice, by the way--was just fine for conventional printing (usually offset lithography). Conventional printing methods can take advantage of the full range of tones in your image.
Copy machines, on the other hand, are pretty stark black and white with no shades of grey. To make a continuous tone image print on a copy machine you have to break the image down into a pattern of black and white (like little dots and big dots) that gives the illusion of tone.
There are several filters that can accomplish this in Photoshop. Just keep the principal of black dots, or any discrete black shapes of varying size (the shape really doesn't matter) in mind and you'll come up with interesting images.
Hope that helps, Bob Dawson
