Re: ***I need Help with Texture Mapping*** 2005-05-02 - By Andrew
Back Although it can be more work, you can UV map the object in Carrara. Convert the Spline Object into a Vertex Model. Then Apply shading domains to each half of the object (because you mentioned that you need to split the Texturing into two parts). Use the UV Editor and you'll be able to adjust the points an each half individually.
You may consider useing more than one shading domain to split up your model. Things like the insides of the hole may be easier to independently apply a UV map to instead of the half of the object.
In building the shader, you'll need to make a complex "layer list" object that refers to the appropreicate texture map.
** If you are like me and place all the individual shading domain UV pieces on 1 map, you will need to apply this one texture map to each piece of the model. I find it easier to make one shader (by itself) that has the color (diffuse) map, reflections, highlights, etc. and use that as a reference map for each piece of the puzzle (figuratively speaking).

I made part of the model with the spline modeler which I booleaned 3 holes in the side of the object.
