Black background again

I've had this problem, I think with only the background, in TS6.6 and
windows XP, SP1, 2 Gb RAM.
My background was a hollow cylinder object with the 4K by 4K photo texture
applied to the inside and all objects inside the cylinder.

I got a pop-up window informing me that I had run out of system resources.
Saving my work and re-starting TS worked for me.
Can't seem to render too many times in one session.  I got this problem also
when trying to render to a .avi file.  Couldn't get past
49 frames.  As I remember the face count was around 14000.  I rendered to
.tga files and built the .avi.  It's 40 mb.  Any suggestions
on compressing it ?
