I'd say Hexagon compares very favourably with Amapi. Of course it doesn't have the NURBS capabilities of Amapi, but it does have a very good and complete set of polygonal modeling tools. The layout is clean and it's easy to learn. That model of the insect head was my first in Hexagon.
I'd say some more, but it's way past bedtime for me here and I have to be up early in the morning. I'll check back in here then.
