It can take a while to load and get the other nodes up.  If doing an
animation, you may see the nodes pick up at about the second or third
frame.  It depends a lot on the complexity of your image as well.
Literally, by the time that the node has downloaded all the stuff
needed to render the image, the main processor may be finished.

Try making an animation out of it, say, 1 to 2 seconds at 30 FPS, even
if no movement, and see if the second processor picks up.  Make sure
that the render node is not hung up waiting for a plugin serial
number.
