That's because most software houses have taken a page from Micro$oft and forced the programmers to write the user manuals instead of hiring professional tech writers to do it right. They are two entirely different and equally important skill sets and it's a waste of a good programmer's time to force him/her to write the manual. Of course the tech writer can't code - but the programmer can't write or keep up with the latest revisions of the manual.

Shakespeare I can read, history and generally any good non-fiction books are terrific as well. I absolutely despise reading manuals and consider them time hogs and more often than not to be horribly, inaccurately and incompletely written, they'll tell you every last thing you need except for that one little thing you want to do at the moment and it never fails. I use the Microsoft knowledge database as a prime example of this. It's like Dante's inferno in there most of the time.
If pictures say a thousand words send me video sets made up of thousands of pictures so I don't have to trudge through a laborious quagmire of half-explanations which makes Hercules 12 labors seem like a nightclub dance. Thirty seconds of video from Thomas or Brian or Brycetech or Shoestring Shaders or almost anyone else will teach me more then ten hours of drudging through all of that gobbledygook. Make short and concise videos please based upon individual tools or topics, they're time savers and easier to edit as changes occur. Keep the videos coming please, they are appreciated here.
Thanks,
Steven

Paper would be a good thing, I for one enjoy reading over a manual while spending "quality" time with the wife.

The more I see, the more I like.. I'll certainly be in line for it when it appears. My biggest bugbear with Amapi Designer that's bundled with Carrara 4 Pro is the lack of a proper manual. Pdf's are okay, but when you have only one screen it'd be much more beneficial to have an open book to flick backwards and forwards. I hope we'll be getting a 'real' paper User Guide??
