Claudia,
Actually I have been in graduate school for the communication arts this past
year and have taken communication related courses including media management,
leadership in communication, an independent study (wrote a screenplay), and a
new communication technology class.  I just opted to do an animation for a
project instead of writing a paper.  This next fall I am switching schools (to
NYIT), so I will be specializing in computer graphics and animation.  I have
always loved animation but I think the Lord of the Rings trilogy of films and
The Tripelets of Bellville pushed me further in that direction.  Thanks. Tina

Hi Tina,

As far as compression goes, it should really be seen as a case-by-case
application.  Oftentimes, you *don't want* to compress your files
until you get to the very end of your project when it is going to
output. Conversely, there are other cases where you may need to
compress along the way.  Just remember that compression affects
quality along the pipeline and the higher you start your compression
along the production chain, the less options you have if you need to
boost the quality later.  The best thing id to go as uncompressed as
you can along the production phase and start the compression during
your output phase.  Of course there are always exceptions, but
non-compression will usually give you the most flexibility with
production quality during the onset of a project.

As far as Quicktime goes, for a while now I have been having some sort
of trouble with Quicktime *players* on my XP Pro (sp2) machine (also
on my Win98 box as well).  Anytime I would open a Quicktime movie in
the QT player, the transport buttons would not be visible.  Only if I
rolled over and clicked the empty space where they should have beeen
located with my mouse, would they appear.  I finally gave up when I
discovered Media Player Classic, an open source media player, which
has been very faithful in playing back my QT files.

As far as Quicktime Pro goes, I don't own it yet, so unfortunately I
can not comment on the encoding side of it.

So Tina, what graphics/multimedia courses have you taken so far?  Are
you planning to specialize in 3D or graphics/multimedia in general?
Just curious.

Cheers.

Claudia

on clients.  My professor already has a copy I gave him burned on DVD
with some individual files.  Next time I will know to do Quicktime and
compress each piece of animation and JPEG before I group it together
and compress it some more and compress the audio files.  My Quicktime
is acting quirky since I upgraded to Windows XP Pro SP2 from Home XP
SP1.  I wonder if anyone else on a PC is having that problem?  Thanks,
