BTW, re: the water shader, perhaps you may need a bit of turbulence, reflection, and reflection to help it along. Here is a *very quick* pic I whipped up with a water type affect along the terrain.

Okay, I really didn't spend anytime modeling the water model at all. I just did your trick and duplicated the terrain ;) (with no tweaking). But I did use a mirror shader for starters and tweaked it a bit with some turbulence and refraction. Perhaps you may want to think along the lines of glass or mirror shaders to get the effect you are looking for. It is at least worth a try.
If you think you are interested in the shader I used, just let me know and I can send it to you.
