My usual advice in cases like these is to always *wait*. :) Hexagon hasn't come out yet, but when it does, I am hoping that there will be a demo version for test driving it. Then after that, you could probably tell if you want to switch from pursuing the AMAPI line to pursuing the Hexagon line. From the looks of the demo videos that Thomas has been posting, Hexagon appears to be a more user-friendly application to work with than AMAPI and may indeed be something you would like to consider.
But then again, if you do NURBS, then AMAPI PRO is probably going to be your best bet because it is a NURBS modeler.
So my advice would be to wait and see. May is just around the corner. :)
