Just tried a single spinning torus on an infinite plane, single light with the camera animated, 120 frames length. OS - XP Pro
Banged it out thunk-thunk-thunk, no perceived slow down, even when rendered twice, one after another.
Are you using keyframing or modifiers, what rendering settings.
