Tina, Harvey is one of the most amicable people I know and he is good and trusted friend. Your posts today bother me and maybe it's just because one or both of us woke up on the wrong side of the bed but here it is, I'll say it: Maybe you "can't" find a decent job because you're not qualified or your communication skills or "fine" artist skills are poor and need improvement. I know several people with Ph.D's and work with dozens more and in fact several of those work for me. Some of them are brilliant and some of them are idiots and at least 3 of them I know work for peanuts and every single one of them started at "the bottom". They don't call themselves "fine" artists or "Dr." this or that... They call themselves Frank, Bob, Dee and Bill and insist everyone else does too. Steven __ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____

I have no idea what field of work your in, but you seem like a very negative person and look around you there are alot of people who can not find "decent" jobs. They are over qualified for entry level jobs and would have to take an extreme pay cut. If you are one of the lucky ones who have not been affected by mergers and layoffs, then consider yourself fortunate. Also, I did not shot gun my education. I have put myself through college and worked full time during it- taking off a semester here and a year there. I have financed all of it myself, not ever receiving help from anyone. In fact, all I get are SL's I have to pay back. This Carrara forum has quite a few of closed minded, negative people on it. If it isn't your own experience, then you are not open to consider someone else's. As for the creative community, I am a fine artist. I can draw without a mouse, Mac, PC, etc...This subject is closed. I will respond no more. I have other more important affairs. Tina

So have I, and at the very first, I got severely annoyed with the "closed architecture toaster" and the "this is all you need to have, ever" philosophy. The PC, at that point was open architecture... and the sad thing is that I had apple II stuff.
>They are twice the price of PCs and software developers are designing just for PCs now.
Market share does have something to do with it, depending on what market you are shooting for. If I did a really neat publishing and graphics program, I'd target both, and probably get the "creative community" (hah!) in the Macs, and the "rest of everybody" in the PC's, (less percent in the PC's, but more of them.
>Look at 3DS and Softimage. I can understand some fears behind Adobe acquiring Macromedia. College programs only allow you to take certain courses and I have spent my 30's in college.
I didn't, but I do wonder what you are specializing in, or did you shotgun the entire field of ???.
>I am 38 and can't find a decent job, so I will probably try to go on for my Ph'D and teach at a university.
Now that's a sad commentary. Wear asbestos skivvies, because university politics is often nasty, small souled, and backstabbing.
Could you be in the wrong area for what you're doing?
