In addition, Adobe now have shockwave and program producing abilities
with Director.  Although Director's market is greatly being
overshadowed by Flash, it's still split between fully functionality
(including 3D) veruses slim and fast (flash).  I assume Director will
be maintained for awhile, but I don't know if they will keep upgrading
this product.  Similar to what Adobe has done with Streamline 4, which
is that they still sell it, but it hasn't been updated in how many
years???

Macromedia has already had a strong influence in the scriptability and
program access to their software.  Something that with the execption
of Go-Live, Adobe doesn't do.  Even their big SVG creation program,
Illustrator (as of this moment) lacks the ability to custom script
actions to their illustrations.

As for combining products, we've all seen this within Eovia.

It's hard to make something fix when the program structures are
different.  We all have a list of features we want into the next
Carrara, including improvements of the VM, particles or whatever.  Of
the modeling wishes, one has been to include Amapi or Hexagon (that we
know of yet) into the interface of Carrara as an additional room per
say.  Some code would probably be usable but the majority is tossed
out and alot of effort would be recreating the tool-sets to meet the
program structure demands of another application.

Sometimes its easier and quicker to start over from scratch and not be
confined to a programming convention of another software.

In short (I know, it's to late), Adobe will keep the "best" few of
Macromedia's collection alive and simply kill off the majority.
Upgrades of features later on would've still happened anyway but now
there isn't a real competition to push these into existance.
