UV mapping is a texture coordinate system for mapping some 2d graphics onto a 3d model. Have you tried applying your texture map as the color channel of your shader? You'll need to use an alpha map as well though. Whether you need to do any UV mapping or not depends on what you've used for shutters. Could you elaborate this part slightly? Are you using a plane, a cube, a vertex model, is it part of one larger vertex model?
