I have done this before.

The tube can be a spline  model or VM model.
Make the sphere small don't make it to big or the bounce and friction
will slow it down.
Don't use the directional force, start the movement in the properties
tray.
For the sphere make sure that you reduce the bounce and friction.
Also change the bounce and friction of the tube.
