It seems like more than just Photoshop CS2 was upgraded. Illustrator
features a built in raster to vector converter (on the whole image
instead of one piece at a time as was before). It features a few
other interesting features too such as multi-page PDF export, without
the need of additional plugins. (InDesign also got a version upgrade
to CS2, but this isn't something that I use.)
With the features in PS CS2 (HDRI support and others), looks like it
is time for me to upgrade my PS6 and Illustrator 9.
Also for those interested, Eovia's Carrara is listed under the 3rd
party plug-ins. Which I think is weird as that it's not a plug-in,
but is interesting that they somehow got listed there.
