Thank you.  I did my building in architools-that's the same as a vertex object
right?  Tina

I know I have to name the shaders but I haven't been successful.  I can
separate the parts of a room with mapping but the building is complex and it's
not working.

If this is a VM object, then you need to select just the polys for the
roof and name them a separate shader domain.  You can then apply a
shader (using layers list) to just that domain.

If this is a group of spline objects, then you should be able to apply
a separate shader to each part.

I normally make buildings and such as separate objects, at least the
roof and perhaps floors.

Your other option is a layers list with a box mapping (rectangular).
You can apply a different shader to each side of the box, which ought
to include the roof as one, and the sides as another.  Pick the
mapping mode that matches best the shape of the object.

Shader domains are sections of a vertex object which have a separate
name.  Shaders can be applied to just those named sections.

Hope this helps a bit.
