Yes, you can either rename it or disable some of your fonts. I seem to remember that the type editor in Carrara was limited to 200-250 fonts. At least it is in Mac OS 9.
Also, make sure you enable the fonts and THEN launch Carrara. I don't believe fonts enabled after launch will be recognized.
