You will probably have better luck with collision detection with a thicker floor created from a cube primitive. The way Carrara handles collision detection is that, when you 'hit' the object, there is a slight delay but when the object passes through it, the object moves again. Since infinite plains are only a pixel thick, the slight delay is hardly noticeable.
