Yes, you can append animation, at least on the BVH side.

Import your first motion
Check the "Create new skeletons" option
Select the "Hip" of your bvh skeleton in the properties tray then
import your second motion.
Check the "Apply to selected skeletons" this time.
Check the "Import animation data at" and set the time past the end of
the first animation to drop the keys there.

Notes:
At times the second set of keys does not show up on the timeline
after you drop it there, but the animation still plays. To get around
it you can reverse the import order and start at the end and work
down to frame zero, then all the keys show.

Keep the "Display default skeleton at frame zero" box un-checked.

The skeletons should have the same bone structure.
