Back Just ignore it. Maya can't but Mental ray will, so not to worry. Make copy of your hdri image to something maya can read like jpg or whatever, and then use this to position the picture. For tuning materials and the render use hdri image. You can even setup pre and post mel scripts to do the change for you...
